CHURCH BELLS/WELCOME
HYMN #966: “Before You, Lord We Bow”
INVOCATION
P: In the name of the Father and of the (+) Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
P: If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins,
C: O Lord, who could stand?
P: But with you there is forgiveness
C: therefore you are feared.
P: O Almighty God, merciful Father,
C: I, a poor miserable sinner, confess to You all my sins and iniquities
with which I have ever offended You and justly deserved Your punishment now
and forever. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them,
and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy,
innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to
be gracious and merciful to me, a poor sinful being.
P: Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office as a called and
ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God to you, and in the
stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sin
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.
INTROIT (read responsively)
P: Hear my voice when I call, O Lord;
C: be merciful to me and answer me.
P: The Lord is my light and my salvation-
C: whom shall I fear?
P: The Lord is the stronghold of my life-
C: of whom shall I be afraid?
P: Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger;
C: you have been my helper.
P: Do not reject me or forsake me,
C: O God my Savior.
P: Glory be to the Father and to the Son
C: and to the Holy Spirit;
P: as it was in the beginning,
C: is now, and will be forever. Amen
P: Hear my voice when I call, O Lord;
C: be merciful to me and answer me.
COLLECT
O God, because you have prepared for those who love you such good things as
surpass our understanding, pour into our hearts such love towards you that
we, loving you above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all
that we can desire; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

CATECHISM QUESTIONS REVIEWING THE LORD’S SUPPER
P: What is the Sacrament of the Altar?
C: It is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ under the bread
and wine, instituted by Christ Himself for us Christians to eat and to
drink.
P: What is the benefit of this eating and drinking?
C: These words, “Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins,” show
us that in the Sacrament forgiveness of sins, life and salvation are given
us through these words. For where there is forgiveness of sins, there is
also life and salvation.
P: How can bodily eating and drinking do such great things?
C: Certainly not just eating and drinking do these things, but the words
written here: “Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins.” These
words, along with the bodily eating and drinking, are the main thing in the
Sacrament. Whoever believes these words has exactly what they say:
“forgiveness of sins.”
P: Who receives this sacrament worthily?
C: Fasting and bodily preparation are certainly fine outward training. But
that person is truly worthy and well prepared who has faith in these words
“Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins.” But anyone who does
not believe these words or doubts them is unworthy and unprepared, for the
words “for you” require all hearts to believe.
THE LORD’S PRAYER (inside back cover of Lutheran Service Book)
ADMONITION TO COMMUNICANTS
P: I exhort you in Christ that you give attention to the Testament of Christ
in true faith, and above all take to heart the words with which Christ
presents his body and blood to us for forgiveness; that you take note of and
give thanks for the boundless love that he showed us when he saved us from
the wrath of God, sin, death, and hell by his blood; and that you then
externally receive the bread and wine, that is, his body and blood, as a
guarantee and pledge. Let us then in his name, according to his command, and
with his own words administer and receive the Testament.

“God of Our Fathers”
COMMON DISMISSAL
LUTHER’S PRAYER after COMMUNION
All: O God, we are sinners, and yet we are not sinners. Alone and apart from
Christ we are sinners, but in our Lord Jesus Christ and with Him, we are
forgiven. We firmly believe that He has destroyed all our sins with His
precious blood. The sign of this is our Baptism, where we are cleansed by
God’s Word, and declared absolved and freed from all sins. In the sacrament
of the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, we have received as a
sure sign of grace the forgiveness of sins. This Jesus has won and
accomplished for us by the shedding of His precious blood. For this we thank
Him now and in eternity. Amen.
CLOSING RESPONSES (I Peter 4:8-11)
P: Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude
of sins.
C: Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
P: Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others,
faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.
C: If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God.
P: If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides.
All: So that in all things, God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him
be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
